Plot:
A group of people are slaughtered one by one in a research facility. Alien monsters surrounds the crew and they have to find their way up to the thirteenth if they want to survive.

Our thoughts:
"Alien" rip-offs in general are honestly a lot of fun, as long as they have decent kills and monsters. One of my favorite out of the shittiest ones is "The Terror Within". Sadly, "The Dark Lurking" doesn't reach that kind of entertainment at all. It's pretty much a group effort that made this film stink this much, most parts of it are bad.

The crew of a secret research facility are locked in with a group of bloodthirsty creatures. The only way to survive is if they can reach the thirteenth floor, but of course, all the floor leading up to it are filled with these monsters. Good? Definitely not. It's predictable, boring and most of the time reall stupid. The characters are annoying and we couldn't care less if they live or die. Most of them are only here to get killed off anyway. There's also some stupid explaining that I felt was unnecessary. But besides all of that, what is there?

Monsters and blood. That's the only thing this movie has that is worth anything. And honestly, get a group of friends together, drink some beer and you could have a good time with this movie because of it's stupidity and monsters. It's not overly gory, but it has more than I had expected and it's surprisingly well made too. The monsters look pretty much like a mix between the things in "The Descent" and the monsters in "Feast", so they're not original either. What did annoy me was that they for some reason included some sort of alien-zombies into the mix. I should've expected it since the Njutafilms release is called "Alien vs. Zombies: The Dark Lurking" (stupid name, why would they put that name on it?) but that doesn't make it right. It's just a sign of a filmmaker who had too many ideas that he wanted to push into one movie.

If you want a poorly acted, poorly filmed, poorly written and poorly directed movie with a bunch of monsters and some gore, watch this. If you want to have a laugh with your friends, watch this movie. If you want a great alien movie, watch "The Deadly Spawn", a much more fun movie. "The Dark Lurking" fails in so many ways that it can't be saved by the effects, but there are far worse films out there too, so if you're in a cheesy mood... why not?

Positive things:
- Gore and monsters.
- Pretty good effects.
Negative things:
- Everything else.

Rating:
Gore: 3/5
Nudity: 0/5
Story: 1/5
Effects: 3/5
Comedy: 1/5
