Mechanic Alex (David Hess) and his dofus friend Ricky (Giovanni Lombardo Radice) invite themselves to a party, just to find that the people they come to are messing with them. A girl flirts on and off with Alex, while Ricky is being cheated off of his money in poker. These are things that set Alex off in a very pissy mood, and it's time for Alex and Ricky to turn the table on the people at the party.
"The Last House on the Left" is a film that spawned alot of rip-offs during the 70's and 80's, and "The House on the Edge of the Park" is one of them, and just like that one it's also starring David Hess, but being a rip-off doesn't keep this film from being a stunning film that is well worth spending time on.
Basicly the film starts out with Alex raping a chick in a car, so from the start we know that Alex is pretty much a pig, but you can't help but root for him once they get to the party with the group of asses. Even though rape is worse than cheating in a game of cards and fake flirting, I was still just feeling good when Alex smashes one of the guys' face into the table. But it is safe to say that there are times you don't know who to root for at all. The whole situation is pretty weird, because even though Alex and Ricky are holding them hostages in the house, there are scenes where the girls seem to enjoy being raped.. but those scenes should probably be considered love scenes, but being hostages and whatnot, I'll say love/rape scenes. Either way, it ends in a way that explains all your questions, and even though I thought it was a pretty stupid ending for a while, it really grew on me and I now think that the entire film is a masterpiece. It's one of those movies where some bad punches and poorly made knife cutting doesn't matter because of how well made the film is, and how much you get into the story.
It's a very dirty little film, with plenty of rape, sex and violence, but it's never over-the-top. The violence is basicly punches, smashing faces into the table, and tying people up, which made it feel alot more realistic than if they were gonna start gutting them and let the intestines fall out. I didn't really feel much in the rape scenes as far as disturbance goes, except for when we are introduced to a new girl that comes to the house. Alex is about to rape her when we find out she is a virgin, and for some reason that just felt alot more than the other sleazy things they do did. In this department, I would say that you are gonna get ALOT of naked ladies, and they have great bodies too. However, if you are looking for gore, go somewhere else.
"The House on the Edge of the Park" is a wonderful and atmospheric film, it's all about being dragged into the situation. Yes, you could watch it just to masturbate to nudity, but the film is so much more than that. Watch this film if you want a cruel ride that feels very realistic and that literally never is boring. It has plenty of great acting, and an interesting end to the whole thing. Don't let the fact that it's a "rip-off" scare you at all.
