Homicidal nurses have set a base in a large, fancy hospital out in the woods where they kill off men and brain wash women to be their slaves. These nurses might have power, but they also have problematic relationships with each other, and especially with the young woman Sabrina. And Sabrina is our only hope!
You know when you watch a terrible movie that you really hate in almost every way, but for some reason you want to watch it again, years later? "Maniac Nurses Find Ecstasy" is one of those. I watched this film many years ago, and I disliked it so much that the only second I remembered of it was that of the nurses walking in the woods. Yet I have been chasing this on DVD for many years as well. Why? I don't know! I just wanted this title in my possession. And maybe I was morbidly curious if it really was as bad as I had remembered.
It is. It's pure shit. In every single way! Not even exploding heads and boobs saves this one - it's still boring as hell! The plot... well, let's call it a plot for the sake of this review. It's about a woman, Sabrina, stuck in a fortress/hospital in the middle of the woods. It's controlled by maniac nurses who kill men (after seducing them) and who brainwash women to make them part of their little... thing. Is it a cult? Is it an army? Are they real nurses? I'll be damned if I know. Anyway, Sabrina is special. For some reason one of the top "nurses", Ilsa (appropriate), fancies her and gives her special treatment to please her. But Sabrina is just interested in her comic books. What a nerd! This is followed by other... things happening. But essentially it's just about a group of sadistic nurses. Sometimes you see boobies, sometimes you see them kill someone, and either way you'll be urging for the fast-forward button.
Why is "Maniac Nurses Find Ecstasy" so bad, though? I think it's because the movie itself seems like it tried to be serious, but in the hands of Troma it became something completely different. Sure, the film was still just a silly B-movie action/erotic film wanting to be good from the start, but after the Troma treatment it's just silliness in a can. At least I THINK Troma added the narrative, which was probably a good idea but it couldn't save the movie. The narration jumps in at random moments explaining things that the film forgot to mention, in the most pretentious way possible (and mispronouncing "sexually" every time). Humorous in a "facepalm" sort of way, yes, but it's tedious, boring and annoying as fuck to hear this narration when you know it's all just a bunch of bull to cover-up a travesty. Add to this the extremely shitty dubbing, which isn't even funny (something that bad dubbing can be, at times).
I can appreciate a terrible movie, I'm in the front lines of supporting "A Nymphoid Barbarian In Dinosaur Hell", a film I wouldn't have heard of if it wasn't for the Troma treatment (the title). That film also doesn't even have tits, yet it amused me more than this film. "Maniac Nurses Find Ecstasy" simply doesn't have a niche (like the bad dinosaurs in "Nymphoid...") and ends up being just a boring wannabe-action/horror with occasional tits and blood. It fucking sucks, is a good way of putting it. And it shouldn't suck - IT HAS TITS AND BLOOD! But somehow it ends up being boring and that's an instant kill shot. I still love having it in my collection though. We're all weird like that, aren't we? If you can manage to watch this without watching it, do so. What I mean is this: you want to be able to say you've seen it, but trust me - you don't want to actually sit through it. It's mostly about so-so looking women walking around with guns.
