During the research on a remote island a couple live with a strange tribe. While the husband is working, his wife starts experimenting with her sexuality and lust, which has been lacking with her husband lately. She eventually falls for a woman at from the tribe and brings her back to civilisation.
"Orgasmo nero" has been a talked about D'Amato movie and one I have been wanting to buy for a long time. After having seen it I'm not sure why, but there was something about it that I thought looked interesting. I suppose "Erotic Nights of the Living Dead" might be the movie that I had hoped for this one to be, because that's one that I really did enjoy and it featured as much smut and horror that I wanted it to. "Orgasmo nero" has been labeled under horror at a few places but it couldn't be further from it. It's a movie about a troubled marriage, and it's set in the middle of a tribe. That's where the horror kicks in - some of the things the tribe does. Other than that it really is just about a couple, the baby they are trying to have together, the woman she falls for, and the sex. So yeah, not really horror.
The version I watched is the One 7 Movies release and it goes under the name of "Sex and Black Magic", which I guess is an okay alternative title even if I think "Orgasmo nero" sounds more awesome. I don't know if there is a difference, but my version is the softcore version, I believe there is a hardcore one (or know, rather, since the disc has hardcore footage in the extra material). For once I don't think it was needed to have the hardcore stuff, as the movie is just as boring with it. The movie doesn't really shy away too much eiher, so I guess it would just be an additional penetration shot or two. This "softcore version" has plenty of pussy close-ups, some actually softcore shots, and a graphic oral-sex scene towards the end. Not really much left to show. Although the vagina's are very hairy so you don't really see much flesh. I don't mind hair down there at all, quite the opposite, but there is a limit and these ladies had too much.
If you want to watch a Joe D'Amato movie with lots of triangle drama, some sex, and little-to-no violence, then this is a brilliant movie for you to watch. Seriously, it might be your favorite movie ever! But if you want something more, something rougher, something gorier, something sexier from him.. well, you can find much better out there. "Orgasmo nero" doesn't offer anything new, it follows a pretty common concept from late 70's and 80's - the island of cannibals and their "horrific" rituals, and city people going there to research it. I recommend "Erotic Nights of the Living Dead" and "Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals" over this one. Question is, should I try "Porno Holocaust"? (sometimes known as "Orgasmo nero 2")
