Plot:
The ozone breaks down and people start mutating into slimey cannibal fiends. A girl is investigating the happenings, and a guy follows her by hiding in her trunk. When the guy shows himself, he pays her so he can come along. Together they're fighting these hungry redneck mutants.
Our thoughts:
I had to buy this film after hearing how much it has in common with the film "Redneck Zombies", which is one of my favorite Troma films, and might even go as far as saying it's one of my favorite zombie films, period. I do see why people say they have alot in common, but Ozone is alot, and I mean ALOT, worse.
This shot-on-video film, that really feels like it could've been a Troma-film, isn't a complete waste. For a fan of low budgeted cinema like myself, it was atleast interesting to watch, even if it's a pretty bad movie. There are alot of boring scenes, and very few scenes that are enjoyable. There are alot of "so bad it's good" moments in it, and they help it. Some scenes are straight out hilarious because of little things like stupid laughter, and bad dubbing. The specific laughter I'm talking about is by an old lady that I have given a name of my own, Mama Redneck. I call her that because her son, which has a big role in the movie, is a very typical redneck. Mama Redneck is the master of ridiculous and stupid noises overall, not just laughing. It's funny, but I still wanna beat the shit out of that old fart.
The acting is pretty much like in "Redneck Zombies". Which means that it's bad, but it works in a film like this. The camera is handled pretty well, and being shot on video, it has a nice feel to it. I think this movie could have been brilliant if it was funnier, had more gore, and had atleast a titty or two.
As far as the effects go..well, they're alright. At times they are even really wicked looking, like the corpse on the kitchen floor that has it's skull showing. I liked that one alot. The effects look good as long as they're "just there", meaning that we don't see it happen but we see what it looks like after. The faces on the mutants are one of the things I'm talking about, and I'm glad we never see them transform. At times they remind me of a slimey version of the ones in "Nightmare City".
Watch this film if you are a fan of low budget films, or if you love movies with sweet titles like this one. They could have improved alot of things, but luckily I didn't expect too much.
