Seven feminists hit the road to tour Europe over the summer, to do shows expressing their sexuality and political statements. Music, performance art, sex, lesbians, feminism and pussy is guarnateed.
In many ways "Too Much Pussy!" reminds me the documentary about the band Rockbitch, "Sex, Death and Magick", that I remember seeing a couple of years back. And that's not too far from it, but instead of being a band the girls in "Too Much Pussy!" are just performers. And as an audience I find what they do a lot more appealing and interesting to watch for a longer period of time than what Rockbitch do. Although I enjoyed their work as well - some good songs, but most of all one hell of show. "Too Much Pussy!" amps up the art a lot more though, and that's initially why I wanted to check this movie out. Tour life is fun too, sure, but that's not where the excitement comes in.
We're introduced to seven women from different place who are going on tour together to perform. They're artists, writers, musicians, activists, prostitutes, pornstars. Take all of the things you'd imagine they can do and turn it into stage show with no lines drawn and you get their Queer X Show. As a documentary it lacks a little to go from good to great. But it is indeed a look into a world many of us have no idea about. A titillating, surprisingly fun, world.
Now I'm not one to discuss politics, and I won't do that now either. There is a lot of your typical feminist talk in the movie, and clearly much of what they do is a statement. But there's also some insightful and not all just repetitive. I just can't get involved in that aspect of this movie and that ruins some of the point - I know that. I prefer to watch this as a group of artists on tour and it's good enough for that. I will leave the politics to someone who has anything to say about it.
My favorite bits of the movie are all from their performances. We have one that makes fun of the obsession with social networks that is somewhere between silly and spot-on with a sexual twist, where the girl undresses and screams at her laptop for someone to update their status. Another one with the same woman was basicly just a dance to a song, but it still managed to be one of the best bits of the movie because of how well she did the part. Not that the dance was good, nor the music, but it was chaotic and all over the place and that made it work. These two are probably two of the least weird ones, and say very little about the shows overall, but they ended up being the most memorable ones for me.
"Too Much Pussy" is an on-the-road documentary about feminists who perform sexual shows on stage. You get exactly what you expect from it. Nothing more, nothing less. If that's good or not, I don't know. It certainly doesn't make it a bad movie in any way, just nothing new or overly exciting. Maybe for casual documentary watchers this will blow your mind, what do I know? However if you've seen your fair share of porn documentaries, etc. then you'll get a déjà vu feeling. If you're a fan of unusual art and don't mind it being filled with pussies and politics then I definitely think you should check it out!
