Our Thoughts:
Buying a sexploitation movie always seems like a good idea at the time - that is until you final watch it and by then you start thinking, "I really should have bought something else." That's how I felt watching "Wide Open" at least; seemed like an excellent purchase at the time because it is a Christina Lindberg movie - a woman who exudes sexuality to the point that you feel like you just can't take it. But, sadly, "Wide Open" is another movie where Christina plays a bit part even though she is the movie's main selling point. And with "Wide Open" itself, you can understand why she is the movie's one and only selling point.

This is the paragraph where I would usually do a brief rundown of the story mixed in with snarky comments, but I can't for the life of me remember what the plot was to "Wide Open". I'm not even sure there is one so all that leaves me with are my snarky comments and I'll get to those later. The general "idea" behind "Wide Open" is the misadventures of a young woman, Beryl (Gunilla Larsson), while in the city (I have no idea which city) that involves: thugs, criminals, drunks, stripping, sexy photo shoots and lots and lots of bed hopping. There were a few running storylines with some of the male characters - particularly the thugs who were taking advantage of the women, but again, I can't remember any of the detail to tell you who was who or what was what.

I can only assume it had to do with the fact that "Wide Open" was mind numbingly boring to the point that I had a hard time concentrating on the movie and what was going on.

Hey, is that a squirrel on my balcony? Awesome.

There are essentially three women in this movie: Marianne (Solveig Andersson) the older sister, Beryl (Gunilla Larsson) the younger sister, and Eva (Christina Lindberg) a random woman who shows up and is friends with Beryl. Marianne and Eva come and go during the duration of the movie so for the most part we spend our time with Beryl who often does things that results in her getting naked. Same can be said for all the women in this movie.

"Wide Open" is a cut and dry sexploitation movie - it exists as basically what some men fantasize about. All of the men are ugly scumbags - just absolute total pieces of shit (purposely done by Gustav Wiklund) and yet they seem to have an endless amount of beautiful women at their beckoning. (Okay, so not too far from reality.) Then the women themselves are nothing but objects; they show up to get naked and have sex. Nothing more nothing less. The mentality of this movie can be pin pointed to a single scene in which Christina Lindberg is vacuuming naked and her boyfriend knocks her to the floor by kicking her in the ass and belittling her. It's more than clear why there is a nonexistent plot in "Wide Open" since it was made with only one goal in mind: nekkid wimmin and sex.

And I actually hate saying this because it makes me feel like a total asshole but the movie really dropped the ball by having Beryl be the focal character because, and again, I hate saying this, but the actress who played her was rather homely. A dickish thing to say, I know, but sexploitation is meant to stimulate and it's hard to be stimulated when you find the main actresses to be unappealing. Especially when she was paired up with Lindberg in some scenes.

However, all dickish comments aside about an actress's look, "Wide Open" is a movie to avoid because it's just a terrible and boring movie. Less than a handful of actresses, a nonexistent plot that still manages to be both convoluted and dull along with the usual dousing of 70's Swedish sexual freedom. And muff too. Good for the Lindberg completist. Good for the person who enjoys sexploitation movies in general. Not good for anyone else.

Positive things:
- Christina Lindberg
Negative things:
- Nonsensical and utterly boring.
- Unattractive female lead.
- Have I mentioned how fucking boring this movie is?
